In her illustrious three-decade career, Beth Gibbons has had four noteworthy and unique debuts. Her iconic band Portishead released Dummy, a darkly seductive mix of beat-driven production and cinematic noir, in 1994.

It was the first of three albums in their condensed but yet flawless history, and it helped popularize Bristol trip-hop. Eight years later, on the beautiful, depressing folk album Out of Season, Gibbons collaborated with Rustin Man, alias Paul Webb, a former Talk Talk member. 17 more years later, Gibbons accomplished a new first for herself as a soprano with a symphony. She sang Symphony No. 3: Symphony of Sorrowful Songs, Op. 36, composed by Henryk Górecki and directed by Krzysztof Penderecki, vocally testing her most to yet. And only now, after almost thirty years
