Kevin Barnes didn’t think they would be able to get out of Georgia. Around 1996, Barnes, a pop four-tracker in their early twenties with permissive images of Bowie, Prince, and Iggy Pop prancing around their head, came at the once-thriving college-rock mecca of Athens. Montreal quickly turned into a warning flare for a South that was gradually shifting.
Barnes, who will accept any pronoun you choose, has twisted gender and genre with intricate and wonderful records, bringing misery and despair to the fore through kinetic music of radical incandescence. However, there’s only so much effort one can put into the vanguard when one lives in a place where outdated ideas about decency, racism, and sexuality permeate every aspect of daily life.
Bringing you this new music required a great deal of effort and commitment. Kindly demonstrate your approval by downloading and listening to the song as much as you can! We appreciate all of your help and hope you like the new song!
