A recent tribute album to the legendary art-pop group “Stop Making Sense” shows how they have influenced a new wave of musicians, despite the band’s members stating that a reunion is still unlikely.
GETTING BIGGER IN Teezo Touchdown, a new wave of Texas rap-rock musicians in the 2000s, was not very familiar with Talking Heads. However, some of his coworkers assumed he would be inspired by the band and played a clip from its 1984 concert DVD, Stop Making Sense, while he was recording his own records and organizing a stage play. “I had a real epiphany when I saw David Byrne perform ‘Psycho Killer’ with a boombox in the opening shot,” Teezo says. They had the whole package with what he was doing, the production, and the images. It’s still recent.
